If what you want is quiet, creative time to paint or write this is the place.
Ka Hale Kiolaka'a (Ka Hah-lay Key-oh-la-ka-ah which means "House of the Tossing Winds") is unique among Big Island vacation rental accommodations as it offers uninterrupted quiet time amid the rugged tropical splendor of the Big Island's South Point. The southern-most point in the United States, the Neighborhood of Na'alehu is located near the town of Waiohinu in the Ka'u District on the Island of Hawaii. It  is known for its dry, sunny climate year-around and rugged windy cliffs. The ocean bottom drops off quickly on this side of the island resulting in deep blue waters where whales and dolphins can be seen as they breach the surface in the winter months.

Mark Twain and Robert Louis Stevenson both found occasion to write during their stays in Hawaii. Gaugin went to Tahiti to paint. Honolulu is no longer the sleepy little town it was way back when. To find the peaceful island solitude of the old days, come to Hale Kiolaka'a in Na'alehu, near the towns of Waiohinu and Punalu'u.  If you tire of your time alone, it's a two hour drive into Kona town. There you'll find snorkeling, great island restaurants and entertaining bars with everything from live dance music to hilarious amateur sumo wrestling contests in inflated Sumo suits. You can try it yourself!
