Chop Suey Culture
No. We are not predominately Chinese but it is a great way to describe our
racial mix of Hawaiian, Samoan, Caucasian, Japanese, Korean, Filipino and
Chinese. If your family has been in Hawaii for a couple of
generations, it's a strong chance that you are a chop suey mix of several of
the above. After all, opposites do attract!
Each island has historical locations which "relive" the ancient Hawaiian and early
plantation days of the islands. Take a few moments and go back in time to when
people arrived on these islands by ancient sailing canoes from Tahiti, merchant ships
from America or steamers from the Orient.
Along with our historic sites, ethnic festivals and events, you'll find
contemporary theaters and art galleries around the islands. This tropical
landscape provides us with a collage of vibrant images and colors everyday which is reflected in our contemporary as well as earlier island art...
